Can I customize a chandelier or order custom strands/suncatchers?

In addition to chandelier customization, we can often assemble custom strands or suncatchers using our crystals and hardware. Contact us with the product link, measurements, and your ideas so we can advise.

Where can I buy replacement chandelier crystals?

CrystalPlace carries replacement chandelier crystals in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Start with our Crystal Prisms Gallery. If you are unsure what you need, send us a clear photo of the crystal next to a ruler. We can usually help you find the closest match.

What are the crystals on a chandelier called?

Most people call them chandelier crystals or crystal prisms. Depending on the shape, they may also be called pendants, pendalogues, drops, spears, almonds, or octagons. If you do not know the name, the shape and measurements are usually enough to find the right piece.

How do you attach crystals to a chandelier?

Before removing anything, take a few photos so you remember the original pattern. Turn off the chandelier at the wall switch and circuit breaker. Most crystals hang from small hooks, rings, clips, or pins. Use the same type of connector and work one section at a time so the chandelier stays balanced.

How do I identify the correct replacement chandelier crystal?

Use a matching crystal that is still on the chandelier as your sample. Measure its length, width, shape, color, and hole placement. Measure the crystal by itself and then again with the top octagon or connector. A photo beside a ruler makes matching much easier.

What are the different parts of a chandelier called?

The main parts include the ceiling canopy, chain, center column, arms, bobeches, candle covers, sockets, crystal garlands, connectors, hanging prisms, and bottom finial. If you send us a photo, we can help identify the part you are trying to replace.

What is the part that holds a chandelier to the ceiling called?

The decorative cover against the ceiling is called the canopy. Behind the canopy, a mounting bracket connects the chandelier to the electrical box. The chandelier itself usually hangs from a chain or downrod.

How can I fix a broken chandelier arm?

A cracked or broken crystal arm is usually replaced rather than glued. Compare the length, curve, openings, fitting size, and finish with the original arm. Browse our replacement crystal chandelier arms, or send us photos and measurements for help. If wiring runs through the arm, have a licensed electrician handle the replacement.

How do you replace a chandelier socket?

Chandelier sockets are connected to the fixture’s wiring, so we recommend having a licensed electrician replace them. The new socket must match the bulb base, wattage rating, dimensions, and mounting style of the original.

Products & Crystal Quality

Are your crystals real crystal or plastic?

We sell real crystal and high‑quality glass, not plastic. Each product page specifies the crystal type and grade.

Do you sell genuine Swarovski® crystals?

Yes. We carry genuine Swarovski® components. Products using Swarovski are clearly labeled on the item page.

What type of crystal is best for a chandelier?

For a replacement, the best crystal is the one that matches what is already on your chandelier—not necessarily the most expensive one. Swarovski is known for exceptional cutting and brilliance. Magnificent Crystal offers beautiful sparkle at a more affordable price. Match the shape, size, color, and quality as closely as possible.

Is crystal from an old chandelier worth anything?

Sometimes. Value depends on the maker, age, cut, condition, size, color, and whether you have a complete matching set. Branded or unusual vintage pieces are generally more desirable than common loose prisms. If you believe the chandelier is antique or rare, have it evaluated before taking it apart.

How much does a real crystal chandelier cost?

Prices vary widely. A small crystal chandelier may cost a few hundred dollars, while a large or custom chandelier can cost several thousand. Size, number of lights, crystal quality, frame construction, and workmanship all affect the price. You can compare current options in our crystal chandelier collection.

Sizing, Installation & Bulbs

Is assembly required with my purchase?

Some chandeliers need no assembly at all, while others require light assembly to hang crystals and/or crystal strands. When you purchase a crystal chandelier, the crystal strands are prepared and ready to hang. Each chandelier that requires assembly comes with clear instructions showing where to hang each crystal and/or strand.

How do I handle the crystals while assembling?

To prevent loss of brilliance, please wear the gloves provided with your chandelier when handling crystals. This helps prevent perspiration or grease from your fingers from smearing the crystals.

How do I calculate the correct chandelier size for my room or dining table?

For dining tables, use this guide:
– Table seats 4–6: choose a chandelier between 20″–24″
– Table seats 6–8: choose a chandelier between 25″–29″
– Table seats 8–10: choose a chandelier between 30″–36″
The recommended height above a dining table is about 28″–32″.
For a two‑story foyer, the chandelier is typically hung about 10–11 feet above the floor.

Where are your chandeliers designed and prepared?

Our chandeliers are dressed, packed, and shipped from our facility in Van Nuys, California.

Should I hire an electrician to install my chandelier?

Yes, we strongly recommend that you use a licensed electrician for the electrical installation of your chandelier. Some customers also hire an electrician to install and dress their chandeliers, while others prefer to dress them themselves using our easy‑to‑follow instruction sheet.

What type of bulbs can I use, and are your fixtures dimmable?

Most fixtures accept standard candelabra or medium‑base bulbs within the listed wattage. Many can be used with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch—check each product page for specifics.

Chandelier Cleaning & Care

What is the best cleaner for crystal chandeliers?

For routine cleaning, we recommend Brilliante Crystal Cleaner. Spray it on and let it drip dry—there is no need to remove or hand-wipe every crystal. It works best on dust and light buildup. A chandelier with heavy grease or years of buildup may need an initial hand cleaning.

How do I clean a crystal chandelier without taking it down?

First, turn off the chandelier at the wall switch and circuit breaker and let the bulbs cool. Place towels or a drop cloth underneath. Keep the spray away from sockets, wiring, and other electrical openings. Spray the crystal areas evenly, let the cleaner drip off, and allow about 24 hours for the fixture to dry before restoring power.

What kind of liquid should I use to clean my chandelier?

For a no-wipe cleaning, use a cleaner made specifically for chandeliers, such as Brilliante. If you are removing and washing individual crystals, use a small amount of mild dish soap in lukewarm distilled water. Rinse with distilled water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

How often should I clean my chandelier?

Most chandeliers benefit from a spray cleaning every three to six months. Chandeliers near a kitchen, fireplace, air vent, or open window may need cleaning more often. Light dusting between cleanings helps prevent heavier buildup.

Are crystal chandeliers hard to keep clean?

They do not have to be. The key is cleaning them before dust and grime become heavy. Regular dusting and an occasional no-wipe spray cleaning are much easier than removing and washing every crystal by hand.

Does no-wipe chandelier cleaner really work?

Yes—for the type of cleaning it is designed to do. Brilliante removes ordinary dust and light buildup, then drips dry without wiping. It will not remove heavy kitchen grease, rust, burn marks, stains, or tarnished metal.

Can chandelier cleaner be used on acrylic or plastic crystals?

Yes. Brilliante can be used on crystal, glass, acrylic, and plastic prisms when used as directed. If you are unsure about the material or finish, test a small hidden area first. Do not spray fabric shades or delicate painted surfaces.

How long should a chandelier dry after spray cleaning?

We recommend allowing about 24 hours for the chandelier to air-dry before restoring power. Check that the fixture is completely dry, especially around the sockets and other electrical parts.

Should you dust a chandelier before using spray cleaner?

Not for ordinary dust. Brilliante is designed to loosen the dust and carry it away as the cleaner drips off. If the chandelier has sticky buildup or kitchen grease, clean that by hand first and then use Brilliante for regular maintenance.

Hanging Crystals & Suncatchers

Do your hanging crystals create rainbows?

Yes. When direct sunlight passes through high‑quality cut crystal, it can create beautiful rainbow prisms on nearby walls and surfaces.

Can I use your crystals for windows, cars, DIY crafts, or feng shui?

Yes. Our prisms and suncatchers are popular for windows, cars (securely hung and out of the driver’s line of sight), décor, crafts, and feng shui uses.
